Welcome to our department's web pages. I emphasize "our" because it is only through cooperation among students, faculty, staff, and our local community, that we can create the safe environment needed to learn, grow, and visit. I appreciate you taking the time to become better informed about the resources available at our Public Safety Department. Our officers are all sworn certified Police Officers certified through the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council, and they are willing to assist you. The Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act requires our institution to issue a statement advising the campus community where law enforcement agency information concerning registered sex offenders may be obtained. It also requires sex offenders, already required to registered in a state, to provide notice of each institution of higher education in that state at which the person is employed, carries on a vocation, or is a student. Our University also provides you with information about your safety and security on campus. You can find this information in our Annual Security Report or our Crime Statitics on file with the U.S. Department of Education via the web at http://ope.ed.gov/security.

Drugs, Alcohol, and Weapons (Also see North Georgia College & State University Student Handbook) 

Drugs: State law and University policy prohibit the sale and abuse of illegal drugs as well as prescription drugs and steroids. Public Safety/NGCSU Police strictly enforces all applicable state laws and works closely with the Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office and the Appalachian Drug Task Force, to ensure the campus is as drug free as possible. Students and employees found in violation of the drug laws could face arrest, expulsion from the University, and loss of future federal educational loans and grants.

Alcohol: Public Safety/NGCSU Police follows a policy of Zero Tolerance towards persons who violate the alcohol laws. These violations include but are not limited to underage drinking, driving under the influence, furnishing alcohol to underage persons, open container and public drunkeness Arrests may be be citation or actually booking into the Lumpkin County Detention Center. Students are also subject to referral to Student Judiciary for violation of the Student Conduct Code.

Weapons: State law and University Policy prohibits possession of weapons on campus unless otherwise specified by state law. All persons found in possession of a weapon as defined by state law are subject to arrest. Students are also subject to referral to Student Judiciary for violation of the Student Conduct Code.
