 Staying In Touch

Communications

The best way to contact your student while they are abroad is by way of email. Another way to communicate is with cell phones, please note that most cell phone plans are either domestic or  international. International plans may be purchased, but often cost quite a bit more than a regular plan. If your student will be abroad for a few months, they may consider an international cell phone plan or purchasing a calling card to be used from land lines. The use of Social Media and P2P Communication Networks are a great inexpensive way to stay in touch while your student is abroad.

Visiting your Student

If you plan to visit your student while they are abroad, it is suggested that you plan your trip towards the end of their stay. It is important that students are able to focus on their school work and getting adjusted to the new culture on their own. Towards the end of their trip, they will have more time to show you around their new home and introduce you to their friends.

If you do not plan to visit your son or daughter while they are abroad, it is a good idea for at least one parent or legal guardian to have a valid passport.
